LAREDO -- An early lead helped Santa Clara (Red Sox), California defeat Mazatlan, Mexico 12-3 on Saturday. California scored on a error in the first inning, a single by Alexander Adame, a walk by Ryan Oliveira in the first inning and a double by Nicolos Malvini in the first inning.
They also put up runs in the second inning, scoring on a passed ball during Nathan Santos's at bat, a single by Trevor Allen and a single by Oliveira in the second inning.
Jayden Grecco led things off on the mound for California. He surrendered one run on six hits over four innings, striking out one and walking one.
Luis Ernesto Magana led things off on the hill for Mexico. He surrendered five runs on two hits over one-third of an inning. Jesus Gonzalo Ledesma, Alejandro Jesus Garcia, and Kevin Jovani Rendon each contributed in relief for Mexico.
Adame went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead California in hits.
Mexico collected nine hits on the day. Hector Iram Enciso, Leonardo Benitez, and Bryan Rivas each managed multiple hits for Mexico.
The loss eliminates Mexico from the Palomino World Series. As for California, they will take on Youngstown, Ohio who fell last night to Puerto Rico by the score of 3-1.
