2022 Day One Recap

2022 Palomino World Series Day 1 Recap

Game One: Brownsville, TX 9, Lithuania 4

Game Two: Nogales, MX 4, Covina, CA 1

Even though both teams were scoreless in three separate innings, Nogales, MX managed to pull out a win over Covina, CA.

Nogales scored off of a single at the end of the top of the first inning. Alvaro Arvizu scored the run on an error by Covina’s pitcher.

At their second at-bat, the Covina team evened the score. A double by Isaac Nava brought in the run.

Nogales, MX was eager to get back on track during the top of the fourth inning. A line drive triple by Kristian Ramirez brought in one run, scoring his own run on a single by Antonio Munoz. Nogales was now in a 3-1 lead.

Neither team scored in the fifth or sixth innings. In the top of the seventh, though, Nogales got back on track, strengthening their lead to 4-1.

Covina had last ups, but they could not catch up to Nogales, giving the Mexico team the win.

Game Three: Taoyuan City, Taiwan 15, San Antonio Texans 0

Taoyuan City, Taiwan was one hit shy of a no-hitter against the San Antonio Texans, as they won in three and a half innings.

Taoyuan City put up an impressive 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Their first run came from the Texans walking the first four batters but that was only the beginning. A triple from Jia-Le Chen and a home run from Ming-Lun Tien made it 6-0, but they were not done yet, scoring four more runs.

A single by Aiden Cortinas prevented the no-hitter in the top of the second.

In the bottom of the second, Taoyuan City scored two more runs on a single and another walk.

A home run by Kuan-Lun Huang brought in three more runs, making it the 15-0 lead that would win them the game.

All four innings Taoyuan City played defense were pitched by Pao-Lo Huang, holding the San Antonio Texans to one hit and striking out six.

Game Four: Laredo, TX 7, Kankakee, IL 1

Even though both teams hit dry spells in the second and fifth innings, Laredo, TX pulled out a win against Kankakee, IL

Laredo scored first in the bottom of the first. Juan Elizondo had an RBI ground out to earn a run. Aggressive running off of a single made the score 3-0.

Laredo tallied another run from a hit by pitch in the bottom of the third inning.

Kankakee got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning by a passed ball to make the score 4-1.

Laredo responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the same inning through another RBI ground out.

In the seventh inning, Jose Garcia hit an inside-the-park home run to further the Laredo lead to 7-1, effectively ending the game.

The Laredo pitching staff also significantly impacted the game with a combined 13 strikeouts by pitchers Arturo Garcia and Emir Encalada.

2022 Palomino World Series Day 2 Recap

Game Five: Covina, CA 6, Aroma Park, IL 5

Game Seven: Dorado, PR 10, Nogales, MX 5

Dorado, PR came out with a strong win in their first game of this year’s World Series.

They set the tone early in the game, scoring three runs on a double to take a 3-0 in the top of the first inning.

Dorado extended their lead by another run in the top of the second on another double.

An error by Nogales’s third baseman created another scoring opportunity for Dorado, giving them a 5-0 lead.

Nogales’s offense game alive in the bottom of the fourth. A fly ball double put them on the board, scoring three runs to make it a 5-3 game.

Dorado immediately answered back with a home run to take a three-run lead in the top of the fifth inning.

They furthered their lead in the top of the sixth to 9-3, scoring on a single and a double.

Nogales battled back some in the bottom of the same inning. They scored two runs in the inning, one on a ground out and another on a balk by Dorado’s pitcher.

In the top of the seventh, a ground out gave Dorado another chance to score, taking the game with a score of 10-5.

Game Six: Lithuania 18, San Antonio Texans 4

Game Eight: Brownsville, TX 2, Youngstown, OH 11

As the 2021 Co-Champions, Youngstown, OH came ready to fight for the title again.

They wasted no time getting on the board, scoring a run on a ground out in the top of the first inning. Youngstown scored again on a fly out in the top of the second to make it a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, Youngstown scored two runs on a double by Andrew Marcello.

Youngstown hit its stride in the top of the fifth, scoring 7 runs to take a commanding 11-0 lead. David Kessler hit a home run to start off the scoring of the inning. Two walks and a hit-by-pitch provided their other three runs of the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Brownsville scored on a double and a single, but it was not enough, giving Youngstown an 11-2 victory.

Game Ten: Nogales, MX 5, Covina, CA 2

Even though three innings were scoreless, Nogales, MX was able to knock Covina, CA out of the World Series.

After a quiet first inning, Nogales scored two runs in the bottom of the second: one on a passed ball and the second on a steal of home.

No runs were scored in the third or fourth innings, but Nogales added two runs to their score on a double by Octavio Fabian.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Nogales scored their fifth run on a single to take a 5-0 lead.

Covina scored on a double and a passed ball in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough to capture a win. Nogales advances with a score of 5-2.

Game Twelve: Laredo, TX 6, Dorado, PR 0

Laredo, TX played a steady game to beat Dorado, PR 6-0.

Neither team scored in the first, third or fifth innings, but Laredo’s defense prevented Dorado from scoring at all.

Laredo got on the board in the bottom of the second inning with a single.

A home run by Jose Garcia and a single by Joshua Linn in the bottom of the fourth game Laredo a strong 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Laredo took advantage of an error and a walk to account for two of its three runs in the inning. Their sixth run came from a fly out after tagging up, claiming a 6-0 victory.

Game Eleven: Brownsville, TX 13, Lithuania 7

Game Thirteen: Youngstown, OH 3, Taoyuan City, Taiwan 7

Taoyuan City, Taiwan outscored Youngstown, OH 7 to 3.

Neither team scored in the first inning, but Youngstown got onto the board in the bottom of the second on a fly ball double to left field.

Taoyuan City answered with a double of its own in the top of the fourth inning.

In the top of the fifth, Taoyuan City began to pull ahead. A double and a single made it a 3-1 game.

They furthered their lead with three more singles, extending their lead to 6-1.

Youngstown chipped away at Taoyuan City’s lead with a run on a fielder’s choice to make the score 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth. 

Both teams scored a run in the seventh inning to make the final score 7-3. Taoyuan City’s final run came from a walk, while Youngstown’s was from a home run by Joe Roth.

2022 Palomino World Series Day 3 Recap

Game Fourteen: Dorado, PR 6, Nogales, MX 8

Nogales, MX took an early lead and held on in a win over Dorado, PR.

In the top of the first, Nogales scored two runs on a line drive single to right field. Their third run came from a passed ball to take an early 3-0 lead.

Nogales’s scoring returned in the top of the third. Another single advanced their lead to 4-0, and a ground ball turned into a two-run opportunity by taking advantage of an error to make it a 6-0 score.

Dorado got on the board in the bottom of the third inning. After tagging up, a run was scored from a fly out and created a 6-1 game.

 A line drive single provided Nogales with their seventh run of the game in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the same inning, a runner scored on a ground out to make the score 7-2.

Dorado’s eighth run was scored on another single in the bottom of the sixth to create a six-run lead.

The bottom of the sixth inning was crucial for Dorado. A run score from a walk started their momentum, with another run coming from a fielder’s choice. A single ended their scoring in the sixth, making it an 8-5 game.

With only the bottom of the seventh left to score, Dorado scored one run on a fielder’s choice, but it was not enough to pull out a win. Nogales wins 8-6.

Game Fifteen: Brownsville, TX 4, Youngstown, OH 9

Youngstown, OH eliminates Brownsville, TX with a score of 9-4.

Youngstown started off strong in the top of the first inning, scoring runs on a single and a walk.

Brownsville responded in the bottom of the first with a home run, bringing in two runs to tie the game 2-2.

In the top of the second, Youngstown tallied two more runs off of singles to take a 4-2 lead.

Scoring a run while another runner was caught stealing, Brownsville made the game 4-3 in the bottom of the third inning.

Brownsville tied the game at 4-4 with a double by Saul Soto.

With runners on first and second, a home run by Youngstown’s Erik Sundgren made the score 7-4 in the top of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Youngstown scored two more runs on a home run by Mark Bunch to secure a 9-4 win.

Game Sixteen: Nogales, MX 0, Laredo, TX 12

Laredo, TX’s defense held Nogales, MX to zero runs to advance to the Championship.

Even with two scoreless innings, Laredo managed to score 12 runs.

Laredo scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Their first run came from a fly ball caught in foul territory, with the runner tagging up to score. The second run was scored on a passed ball.

In the top of the third, Laredo scored two runs on two doubles. A triple by Gerardo Castillo II brought in two more runs to extend their lead to 6-0.

A line drive triple by Marco Villanueva put another run on the board for Laredo. He then scored after tagging up on a fly out to create an 8-0 game.

Laredo’s offense scored two runs on errors and another on a double in the bottom of the sixth to punch their ticket to the Championship game with a 12-0 score.

Game Seventeen: Taoyuan City, Taiwan 12, Youngstown, OH 2

Taoyuan City, Taiwan knocked Youngstown, OH, the former Co-Champions, in a 12-2 game.

In the bottom of the first inning, Taoyuan City started off strong with three runs. Their first run was scored on a fly ball error. A single brought in a second run. After tagging up, Tzu-Chieh Tien scored the third run on a fly out, taking a 3-0 lead.

Youngstown got on the scoreboard in the top of the second on a single to make the score 3-1.

Taoyuan City scored six runs in the third inning. A double brought in the first run of the inning. Three runs were scored on singles. A fly ball set up two more runs, extending their lead to 9-1.

A single in the top of the fourth by Youngstown made the game 9-2.

Taoyuan City hit double digits on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Taoyuan City scored two runs on a walk and a single to capture the win with a 12-2 score, sending them to the Championship.

2021 Day One Recap

Day One Recap of Palomino World Series

GAME 1: YOUNGSTOWN, OH 4, BROWNSVILLE, TX 3
In a close game, Youngstown, OH was able to come out on top, winning 4-3 over Brownsville, TX on Friday.

Following a walk, Tyler Kamerer doubled to left field scoring one run for Youngstown, OH in the first inning.

In the fifth inning, Brownsville, TX had an inside the park home run by Salvador Lopez. In addition, Angel Larranage singled to right field scoring Aldan Delagado who just had hit a triple to center field.

Gage Gilliot was on the mound for Youngstown, OH. He surrendered two runs on seven hits over six innings and striking out five.

On the mound for Brownsville, TX was Jonathan Moody. He pitched for three and two third innings while giving up five hits and striking out four.

Aldan Delgado and Lopez led Brownsville, TX in hits.

Kamerer went 3 for 4 to lead Youngstown, OH in hits.

GAME 2: PUERTO RICO 10, APPLE VALEY, CA 0

Puerto Rico was victorious over Apple Valey Friday night.

Puerto Rico scored three runs in the third bringing the score to 9-0. Kristian Crespo and Jankel Ceballos both drove in runs.

Colon was on the mound for Puerto Rico. He allowed three hits over five innings, striking out eight.

On the mound for  Apple Valey was Nathan Creason. He surrendered nine runs on nine hits over two and two thirds innings, striking out two.

Puerto Rico had twelve hits. Crespo led the way with the most hits including an inside the park home run in the third inning.


GAME 3: YOUNGSTOWN, OH 24, AROMA PARK 4

Youngstown, OH got on the board early scoring on a grand slam from Tim Quinn in the first inning.

A single by Tyler Kamerer and Joesph Roth and a double by Jason Treveri helped extend the lead to 7-0 in the second inning. An RBI from Alex Tomsic made the score 8-0 going into the third inning.

Doubles from Samuel Williams and Alex Juraninch and a single by Nicholas Heerede helped Aroma Park shorten the lead to 10-4.

Ethan Edkins was on the mound for Youngstown, OH. He gave up one run on one hit over three innings, striking out four.

Michael Feitas got the start for Aroma Park. He lasted one and two thirds innings, giving up nine hits and eight runs while striking out two.

Youngstown, OH put an amazing thirteen runs on the board in the sixth inning. The offense was led by Roth, Conor Carney, Jimmy Sadler, Kamerer, Quinn, and Roth.

In total, Youngstown, OH had 21 hits. Roth led the way with five hit in his five at bats.

Heerde went two for three for Aroma Park.

GAME 4: PUERTO RICO 10, LAREDO, TX 4

Puerto Rico claimed a 10-4 victory on Friday, despite Laredo, TX scoring four runs over three innings.

Doubles by Abdier Aiyala, Dicky Gonzalez, and Jorge Rivera gave Puerto Rico a 5-0 lead in the first inning.

In the third inning, Luis Martinez homered over left field.

William De Gracia was on the mound for Puerto Rico. He gave up three hits and one run over four innings, striking out five.

For Laredo, TX Robert Villarreral was on the mound to start the game. He lasted six innings, allowing 14 hits and ten runs while striking out three.

Puerto Rico had 14 hits. Gonzalez, Rivera, Eric Bello Torres, Aiyala, and Raul Torres all managed to have multiple hits.


2021 Day Two Recap

Day Two Recap of Palomino World Series

GAME 5: BROWNSVILLE, TX 18, AROMA PARK 6

Brownsville, TX was victorious over Aroma Park 18-6 on Saturday.

Aroma Park quickly put six runs on the board in the first inning but struggled to add more later in the game.

Singles from Anthony Sykes, Chase Longtin, and Alex Juranich made base loaded. Two walks and two hits by pitch allowed Aroma to get 4 runs on the board. Hunter Adams had an RBI to add one more run to make the score 5-4 Aroma Park.

Brownsville, TX added six runs in the third inning. David Benitez doubled to center field scoring two runs, allowing Brownsville, TX to take the lead. Following Benitez, Damian Cantu tripled to center field scoring two more runs. To finish off the inning, Eduardo Guerrero singled to left field scoring one run.

Brownsville, TX scored seven more runs in the fifth inning.

Ryan Trinidad was on the mound for Brownsville, TX. He surrendered six runs on six hits over four innings, striking out four.

Anthony Sykes helped lead Aroma Park in hits. He was 2 for 3 at the plate.

GAME 6: LAREDO, TX 11, APPLE VALEY, CA 1

 Laredo, TX was victorious over Apple Valey 11-1 on Saturday.

Singles by Arturo Garcia, Jose Gamez III, Joel Garcia, Joshua Linn, and Daniel Salas gave Laredo, TX a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

To start things off in the bottom of the third, Linn homered to left field extending the score to 5-1. Laredo, TX managed to add two more runs that inning.

Billy Winans was on the mound for Laredo, TX. He pitched four and a third innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out eight.

Kaden Duffy got the start for Apple Valey. H went four innings, allowing ten runs on sixteen hits, striking out one and walking one.

GAME 7: LAREDO, TX 10, AROMA PARK 5

Both teams put up a bunch of runs, but Aroma Park fell to Laredo, TX 10-5 on Saturday.

Amora Park scored four runs in the third inning when Alexander Willis hit a grand slam to left field.

Laredo, TX took the lead back in the bottom of the third when Daniel Salas, Bryan Gonzalez and Marco Villanueva all singled scoring two runs.

On the mound for Laredo, TX was Alberto Gonzalez. He gave up one run on three hits and walked one.

Nolan Aicher got the start for Aroma Park. He gave up five runs on six hits.

Laredo, TX racked up 14 hits. With multiple hits for Laredo, TX was Eduardo Seanz, Bryan Gonzalez, Joel Garcia, and Daniel Salas.

GAME 8: BROWNSVILLE, TX 11, APPLE VALEY 5

Brownsville, TX was victorious over Apple Valey 11-5 on Saturday.

Singles by Aldan Delgado, Jose Gutierrez, and Joshus Benitez and an RBI from Salvador Lopez gave Brownsville, TX a 2-1 lead in the first inning.

Delgado helped lead the way when he went 4 for 4 at the plate for Brownsville.

Despite the loss, Apple Valey managed to have ten hits. Isaiah Hernandez and Nathan Creason had multiple hits.

Jacob Marroquin was on the mound for Brownsville, TX. He allowed six hits and one run, striking out one and walking one.

Jacob Martinez started the game for Apple Valey. He gave up eleven runs on seventeen hits and striking out four.


2021 Day Three Recap

Day Three Recap of Palomino World Series

GAME 9: YOUNGSTOWN, OH 8, BROWNSVILLE, TX 3

Youngstown, OH was able to come from behind and win 8-3 over Brownsville, TX on Sunday. In the bottom of the fourth inning, L DiBeradin hit an RBI to center field scoring the tying run.

Singles from Jose Gutierrez, Angel Solis Jr, and David Benitez gave Brownsville, TX their three runs of the game.

A grand slam from Gage Gilliot gave Youngstown, OH the lead 7-3 in the fifth inning.

Aiden Kelly got the start for Youngstown, OH. He pitched three innings, allowing three runs on three hits.

Angel Larranaga was on the mound for Brownsville, TX. He allowed eights and seven runs while striking out two.

Gilliot and Gavin Miller each had multiple hits for Youngstown, OH.

GAME 10: PUERTO RICO 5, LAREDO, TX 2

Puerto Rico didn’t give up when Laredo, TX had the lead for the first three innings.

Puerto Rico capitalized on a walk when Jankel Ceballos double to left field scoring the lead run on base. A walk and a fielder’s choice gave Puerto Rico the lead.

Juan Milera was on the mound for Laredo, TX. He allowed three runs on three hits and struck out five.

Laredo, TX collected hits from Ciro Banavides, Arturo Garcia, Daniel Salas, and Joel Garcia.

Jorge Rivera got the start for Puerto Rico. He gave up three hits and one run, striking out four and walking two.

GAME 11: AROMA PARK 12, APPLE VALEY 8

Both teams put up a lot of runs, but Aroma Park came out victorious.

A single from Justin Driggers and two walks gave Apple Valey bases loaded in the second inning. Anthony Youngblood Jr singled to center field scoring one run. Jacob Martinez singled to right field scoring one run. A bases load walk added another run. A single from Kaden Duffy and an RBI from Isaiah Hernandez brought the score to 7-2.

Four walks and singles from Samuel William, Hunter Adams, and Alex Juarnich gave Aroma Park the lead in the third inning.

Alexander Willis was on the mound for Aroma Park. He pitched one inning, allowing seven runs on three hits and striking out two.

Ray Zamora was on the mound for Apple Valey. He allowed seven runs on three hits and struck out two.

Jacob Martinez went 3 for four for Apple Valey.


2021 Championship Game Recap

2021 Palomino International World Series Champions

For the first time ever, we have Co-Champs of the 2021 Palomino World Series. Due to bad weather and teams leaving early the next morning, the Championship game that was scheduled for Monday night was cancelled.

Co-Champ: Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico went 3-0 in the tournament. Their strongest appearance was against Apple Valey on Friday winning 10-0.

Abdier Aiyala led the team with a batting average of .750. He had eight at bats with six hits, two being doubles. Leading the team in RBI’s was Dicky Gonzalez and Eric Bello Torres; they each had four.

Jorge Rivera led the team with the most innings pitched. He had an ERA of .000.

Congratulations Puerto Rico!

Co-Champ: Youngstown, OH

Youngstown, OH went 3-0 in the tournament. Their strongest appearance was against Aroma Park on Friday winning 24-4.

Joseph Roth went 5 for 5 in the tournament. He had five singles and three RBIs. Tyler Kamerer went 12 for 14. He had two doubles, one triple, and five RBIs. Leading the team in RBIs was Tim Quinn. He contributed 7 of the 30 that Youngstown had.

Gage Gilliot and Ethan Edkins led the team with a 2.333 ERA. Gilliot pitched six innings, giving up seven hits and two runs while striking out five. Edkins pitched three innings, giving up one hit and one run while striking out four.
