LAREDO -- Taoyuan County, Chinese-Taipei won their second consecutive Palomino World Series on Monday after defeating Guaynabo, Puerto Rico 10-0 in the fifth inning at UniTrade Stadium.
“Before we headed to America, our goal is definitely the championship,” said coach ---- through a translator. “We practice for a long time and our players worked really hard for it. Now that we got our final goal, we are really happy about it.”
Chinese-Taipei got on the board in the first inning when Ji Hong Liu grounded out, scoring one run.
Hao Chen Lo was the stand-out performer of the Chinese-Taipei offense as he became the first player to hit two home runs at UniTrade Stadium in Palomino World Series. Chen Lo had half the RBIs for Chinese-Taipei as well, as he drove in five RBIs on the night.
Chen Hsun Lee led things off on the mound for Chinese-Taipei. He allowed one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking zero. This marked the second scoreless outing for Chen Hsun Lee, and he was named the era champion of the Palomino World Series with a 0 era in 13total innings.
Hsun Lee said through a translator that the era award is proof of his hard work and training. He also said that he is glad that his hard work was able to help the team.
Cristopher Cotto led things off on the hill for Puerto Rico. He allowed two hits and three runs over two innings. BryanSantana and Sebastian Miranda entered the game as relief, throwing one and two-thirds innings and one and one-third innings respectively.
Bermudez Cruz went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Puerto Rico in hits.
