Day One Recap: July 29, 2022

Game One: Brownsville, TX 9, Lithuania 4



Game Two: Nogales, MX 4, Covina, CA 1


Even though both teams were scoreless in three separate innings, Nogales, MX managed to pull out a win over Covina, CA.


Nogales scored off of a single at the end of the top of the first inning. Alvaro Arvizu scored the run on an error by Covina’s pitcher.


At their second at-bat, the Covina team evened the score. A double by Isaac Nava brought in the run.


Nogales, MX was eager to get back on track during the top of the fourth inning. A line drive triple by Kristian Ramirez brought in one run, scoring his own run on a single by Antonio Munoz. Nogales was now in a 3-1 lead.


Neither team scored in the fifth or sixth innings. In the top of the seventh, though, Nogales got back on track, strengthening their lead to 4-1.


Covina had last ups, but they could not catch up to Nogales, giving the Mexico team the win.

Game Three: Taoyuan City, Taiwan 15, San Antonio Texans 0


Taoyuan City, Taiwan was one hit shy of a no-hitter against the San Antonio Texans, as they won in three and a half innings.


Taoyuan City put up an impressive 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Their first run came from the Texans walking the first four batters but that was only the beginning. A triple from Jia-Le Chen and a home run from Ming-Lun Tien made it 6-0, but they were not done yet, scoring four more runs.


A single by Aiden Cortinas prevented the no-hitter in the top of the second.


In the bottom of the second, Taoyuan City scored two more runs on a single and another walk.


A home run by Kuan-Lun Huang brought in three more runs, making it the 15-0 lead that would win them the game.


All four innings Taoyuan City played defense were pitched by Pao-Lo Huang, holding the San Antonio Texans to one hit and striking out six.

Game Four: Laredo, TX 7, Kankakee, IL 1


Even though both teams hit dry spells in the second and fifth innings, Laredo, TX pulled out a win against Kankakee, IL


Laredo scored first in the bottom of the first. Juan Elizondo had an RBI ground out to earn a run. Aggressive running off of a single made the score 3-0.


Laredo tallied another run from a hit by pitch in the bottom of the third inning.


Kankakee got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning by a passed ball to make the score 4-1.


Laredo responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the same inning through another RBI ground out.


In the seventh inning, Jose Garcia hit an inside-the-park home run to further the Laredo lead to 7-1, effectively ending the game.


The Laredo pitching staff also significantly impacted the game with a combined 13 strikeouts by pitchers Arturo Garcia and Emir Encalada.
